Rehabilitation & Wellness Associates (RWA), is headquartered in Silver Spring, MD, and was founded by Famida Kanji OTR/L & Dr. Ali D. Kanji, DPT with the purpose of integrating high quality and high efficiency physical and psychological rehabilitation to our patients and clients.

A little about the Kanjis

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr. Ali & Mrs. Famida Kanji attended the University of Toronto for undergraduate studies, where Dr. Kanji was recognized (2004) as one of the Top 40 Minds of the Past 40 Years. Dr. Kanji obtained his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Daemen College in Buffalo, NY before finishing post-Doctoral clinical training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.

Shortly after graduating, Dr. Ali and Mrs. Famida Kanji ‘hung out their shingle,’ and together, along with the help of key staff, were able to develop RWA’s current structure and operating climate.

As Clinical Director, Dr. Ali’s long-term ambition and vision has been to improve access to physical and psychological rehabilitation for those in need in the Mid-Atlantic region, while building patient census and a wholistic, best practice-focused continuum of care through a unique Rehabilitation-based system.

Since 2008, RWA has specialized in developing and implementing synergistic, working outpatient & telehealth
therapeutic protocols, allowing us to directly provide:

1. Physical Therapy | 2. Occupational Therapy
3. Speech Language Pathology |
4. Mental/Behavioral Health, Counseling

Patient’s Perspective

Adapted From CMS Manual:

Services for physical health and behavioral health (including mental health and substance use disorders) have historically been financed and delivered under separate systems. As a result, Medicaid enrollees with behavioral health conditions are often frustrated and confused by their interactions with multiple public and private agencies and by receiving care from myriad providers funded from different sources.

  • Integrating physical and behavioral health decreases fragmentation of services and promotes patient-centered care for adults with depression and anxiety disorders.

Benefits of care integration, again according to the CMS Manual, include:

  1. Care coordination/care management
  2. Co-location
  3. Improved Screening and Referral to Treatment

If you represent a primary care provider, RA/CORF, pain management anaesthesiologist, orthopedic surgeon, neurologist, cardiologist or other healthcare provider who would benefit from having PT/OT/SLP/Mental Health added to your practice in a compliant manner, contact or call 443-955-0735. Services available in Spanish, Italian, Mandarin.
